Blackout

Blackout Flyer

757 Create members are welcome to apply to BLACKOUT a group exhibition! The show will be held at Zeke's NFK (800 Granby St. Norfolk VA) from (Oct 1st-Oct 31st). Opening night will be Oct 17 Friday 6pm-10pm during NEON District's 10th annual NEON FEST!

757 Create aims to activate Zeke's indoor art wall. As Neon Fest grows in size and attendance with each coming year, so do its musical acts and energetic activities. Our plan is to create a calm, serene “chill space” for patrons to relax in and take a breather from all the excitement and sounds from the other activation areas. We believe having a calm and relaxed atmosphere will help reset the social batteries of the patrons experiencing NEON’s sometimes overwhelming vibrancy.

The artwork theme is BLACK and WHITE. Anything that you can think of in a black and white monochrome color palette. If you're stuck on an idea, feel free to find inspiration from this poem:

The Beautiful Night by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"Now I leave this cottage lowly,

Where my love hath made her home,
And with silent footstep slowly

Through the darksome forest roam,
Luna breaks through oaks and bushes,

Zephyr hastes her steps to meet,
And the waving birch-tree blushes,

Scattering round her incense sweet.

Grateful are the cooling breezes

Of this beauteous summer night,
Here is felt the charm that pleases,

And that gives the soul delight.
Boundless is my joy; yet, Heaven,

Willingly I'd leave to thee
Thousand such nights, were one given

By my maiden loved to me!"

This poem reflects an emphasis on nature, emotion, and the sublime. It celebrates the transformative power of love and the joy that can be found in embracing the present moment.

Artwork must be roughly 12in x 12in or smaller (so we can fit as many artists as possible). Two dimensional, ready to hang art is accepted. Artwork must be ready to hang with either d-rings or wire already attached. Please avoid frames with “kickstands”. If your art does not have proper hanging hardware, it will not be in the show. For hanging 3D work, please contact Aimee beforehand to discuss display plans. Communication is key!

WE WILL NOT ACCEPT AI ARTWORK

Be sure to fill out the application form as accurately as possible. There will be an application fee of $5. This fee will go towards: marketing, flyers, labor, needed hardware, etc. Once an application is submitted, a confirmation email will be sent with payment options for the fee and an exhibition agreement that will need to be signed and returned before dropping off artwork.

Artists are encouraged to have their original art for sale along with any black and white prints! Prints are required to be packaged in clear flat sealable bags (check out clearbags.com, Jerry’s Artarama, or Amazon).
